Gibson LG-2 1946 Sunburst
1946 Gibson LG-2. Solid spruce top; Honduras mahogany back and sides and neck; solid Brazilian rosewood fingerboard and bridge; mother of pearl dot fingerboard inlays; 3-ply top binding, small teardrop tortoise pickguard, classic combination.
The nut and saddle are made of fossilized walrus ivory. Very hard to find.
This guitar has been expertly refretted and given a new nut/saddle. It plays and sounds phenomenal. Has a giant neck. The original tuners actually work well (I assume the big neck help keeps things stable). The guitar is all original except for the nut and frets. Truss rod works well in both directions. The guitar has two repaired cracks on the back. Slight seam separation at the top on the soundhole. The bridge is slightly raising on the "wings", I was informed by a luthier that it is structurally sound but may need to be reglued in the future. The guitar plays great with medium action. The finish has lots of checking and character throughout with some pick wear around the soundhole.
