1959 Gibson Les Paul Special in original cherry finish. Gibson introduced the LP Special Doublecut in mid '58. The original neck pickup position caused most of the specials in '58 and '59 to have a neck heel crack. By the end of '59 Gibson moved the neck pickup back towards the bridge to correct this. So this is a super rare doublecut special with the original neck pickup position and no breaks or repairs! Doubly rare this one is 100% original including frets with an original 5 latch Lifton case (the same one for a burst, these cases alone go for $2000+).
The pots date to the 7th week of '59 and it has the early '59 big neck shape that most covet. Plays up and down the neck effortlessly. Original p90s roar and clean up well with the volume controls. The original case has one broken hasp (see photos), but all others work. Finish is in good shape, but has finish checking, a few dings and some buckle worming (see photos)
